Yes, the odds of you having a shuriken or sword on hand in a self-defense situation are very slim. However, once the myths have been dispelled and the realization that many of the techniques of the shuriken, sword or any other weapon can be applied to everyday objects, you will have a greater understanding of their importance. These hidden translations lie in the: Honbo - half staff Bo - 6 foot staff Tanto - knife Nanchuku Katana - sword Bokken - wooden sword Shuriken - throwing star Kusari Fundo - 3 ft weighted chain Kubaton- short stick (key chain) gun defense and concealed carry training Without training you only see common ropes, cords, sticks, handles, pebbles, marbles, and other everyday items used around your home or office. We see tools of self defense that have been translated from the classical and are now visible. Weapons training will help you learn self-defense, awaken your inner warrior and allow you to see your world from a different perspective. You will find out how the classical weapon that you have always been interested in learning still applies toe the world we live in today. Adult Classes Tuesday & Thursday 6:00pm to 7:15pm Tuesday & Thursday 7:30pm to 9:00pm Friday 10:00am to 12:00 These classes focus on taijitsu (unarmed techniques) that are designed for actual self defense. You will first be taught how fall and you will understand impact and how it affects you, your adversary and life. You then begin learning waza (techniques). You practice as both tori (defender) and uke (attacker), studying both sides of combat. Classes vary each week as to what is focused on and practiced while always helping you with your Ki (inner spirit of strength). Each class begins with warm up and strength building exercises and stretching. This is not to make you a better fighter but to help you live a healthier life. In time you will begin to feel stronger, more confident, as well as grow more and more aware of yourself, your beliefs, and your strengths and weaknesses. This is enlightenment and will happen regardless if you intended it or not. This is where the true study of budo begins. Donjitsu Do training is very honest. You will get out of it exactly what you put into it and if you don’t leave class with a lesson you were not truly there. Kids Classes Monday & Wednesday 6:00pm to 7:00pm The kids classes practice discipline, respect for themselves and others, self-awareness, and self-defense. Just as much time is spent talking to the children about what the true purpose of budo training is, as they spend punching and kicking. There are no belts given to children in Donjitsu Do as we feel this is not healthy. Not until one has proven themselves in the adult class are they allowed to test. Kids typically range in age from 6 to 14 years old; however, when sensei feels they are big enough and mature enough to handle an adult environment they are then moved into the adult class. As with the adult class, one must first learn to fall and then begin learning waza, gradually moving in with the rest of the students. |
