The System of Donjitsu Do
Donjitsu Do is not a system that can be labeled as specializing in any one way of combat but is a culmination of many different martial techniques taken from various styles and woven back together with the Japanese philosophies of the Samurai (Bushido) and the ninja (illusion, intelligence gathering and stealth) to make it extremely adaptable and flexible in nature. If done correctly techniques are done without power and no one should know what just happened. It is our belief that any system that specializes in only one way of combat actually allows its strength to become the special study of others and thus actually becomes the weakness of the system. The combat philosophy of "nothing should ever be as it seems”, along with flexibility of mind and body are utilized in our system. With a true understanding of how the human mind and body works coupled with how to utilize deception in combat one can defeat a much larger opponent.
In Donjitsu Do, strikes are deliberate and are directed at precise structural, pressure, and naturally weak areas of the opponent's body. The face, torso, groin, knees, and shins are commonly attacked as well as the sweeping of the legs. Combat drills may go very quickly emulating how a real fighting situation might unfold with one or multiple attackers. Weapon retention techniques are also studied. As in real combat, you may find yourself in close quarters or knocked to the ground. Joint-locks, throws, and ground fighting are also part of our system. Having the ability to restrain an opponent without causing permanent damage is very important in today’s world and in the system of Donjitsu Do. However, the techniques of this system are potentially lethal and are not designed for sport but for real world application and situations where there are no rules and your survival or that of another may be at stake, Donjitsu Do is a way of life not a game. We do not train for fun, belts, fame, or recognition. Our goal is not that of winning, losing, or proving anything. It is about surviving mentally and physically in the world, we live in today.
Although in its physical application Donjitsu Do can be very aggressive, it is more about learning how to combat and defeat one's own self. We strive to dig deeper into how budo helps us understand who we are, what we believe in, and who we want to become. It is about facing yourself, your own inner demons, and conquering the fears we all carry with us. It is a way of strengthening not only your body but also your own beliefs and being able to stand up for yourself and those beliefs. Even though it may seem cliché, it is a way of finding inner peace, coping with life, and finding our own way through a world filled with violence and uncertainties.
If you approach, Donjitsu Do thinking you already know what it is and what it has to offer you're probably going to be mistaken, it is much more than that.
